Routes to go to the Tuscan beaches

Dear friends, 

This weekend with a friend who lives in Umbria I've done a very nice tour of Tuscany tourist roads starting from the interior to reach the coast area.

My starting point was the city of Arezzo which is in the central area of Tuscany and of which we have spoken many times in this blog. The route we followed was to the north of Tuscany trough Siena, then to Monteriggioni and a very brief stop in San Gimignano. In Montereggioni and Siena, we did not stop although if you do not know any of the two places I advise you to dedicate at least half day to Siena.

After San Gimignano (which is also a place that you can not miss in any case) we stopped in Voterra, magnificent etruscan capital that retains a great Roman amphitheater. We visited it and were delighted to see this historical site.

 

In Volterra we have eaten in a restaurant that I really advise. It is called "l'ombra della sera". The restaurant is easy to find as it is located on the main street. The food is really excellent and the house wine is delicious. Moreover the place also offers a great quality value for money.

 

After our lunch and a tour in the town of Volterra, we continued towards Cecina and then San Vincenzo where we spent the night and had diner at "Poggio ai Santi", an amazing hotel with great charm close to San Carlo. Poggio ai Santi is no ordinary hotel as Francesca and Dominique (the owners) have decorated the place with such a special and warm way that makes you really feel at home. We enjoyed a wonderful dinner at the same restaurant where we admired wonderful views of the coast and the island of Elba.
